This Conference will address the role of innovation as a key component of sustainable development and new technologies in their strategic role to solve fundamental challenges of humanity, such as climate change, food and the health of the world's population.
Considering that Latin America has a relevant potential for innovation in sustainable technologies, it is interesting to address the specific incentives necessary to promote innovation in the region’s countries.
The envisaged debate includes a panel with representatives of different Latin American start-ups and two panels with economic and legal experts, who will discuss the issues that would encourage innovation in sustainable technologies, using different but complementary approaches.
Programme of the Open Session
Panel Start-ups
The first panel focuses on the aspects in which the start-ups are especially innovative. It touches on the legal or economic difficulties the start-ups have faced or are currently facing and what aspects have received or are receiving support from the state or other organisations ( if any) towards their growth.
Bioceres SA (Argentina)
Eco Panplas (Brazil)
AES Andes (Chile)
NotCo (Chile)
Biotecnología y BioingenieríaCORE S.A. (Colombia)
Pellet México Bioenergía (Mexico)

Economics Panel
The Economics panel will address whether there are the right (or even wrong) incentives to generate innovation in the field of sustainability-oriented technologies. It is expected to delve into what questions such as what factors are decisive in the willingness of private actors to invest, and what lessons can be drawn from this about innovations in sustainability-related technologies.
Clemente Forero Pineda (Moderator)
Legal Panel
The Legal panel will discuss which regulatory frameworks are barriers in relation to sustainable development. It will also discuss on the complexity of regulatory frameworks and the difficulty of start-ups to comply with. The overall question is how Latin America can make a decisive contribution to solving humanity’s challenges.
