This was the third workshop on the draft Regional Instrument on Permitted Uses in Copyright Law. Following on from the work done in Sao Paulo, where the Instrument was analysed in detail in the light of the needs of the region, this time the working group focused on analysing specific issues and the first versions of the explanatory notes of the text. The purpose of the explanatory notes is not only to explain the meaning and scope of the terms used, but also to complement the Instrument in order to give dimension to its philosophy, mission and objectives.
As usual, there was discussion and consensus-building to determine the appropriateness of adopting the proposed text and its notes. Significant progress was made in identifying critical points for continued work with the team and workshop participants in view of the next meeting scheduled for the second half of 2024 in which it is hoped to arrive at a text suitable for communication to stakeholders and key actors in the creative sectors.
